The founder of the company, Scott Bowers, is a resident of Costa Rica and has lived in the country for the past six years. He has an excellent command of Spanish and has completed the real estate courses offered by the Costa Rica Real Estate Chamber. In his dual roles as owner and operator of a travel consulting firm and real estate brokerage, Scott has experienced most of what Costa Rica has to offer. His articles in The Costa Rica Expert, as well as his monthly Ezine, The Costa Rica Zine, are excellent resources for anyone interested in learning more about this incredible country. Scott’s full biography appears below.
Scott is from the Carolinas and first came to Costa Rica in 2001 to broker a deal with one of the top for-profit private universities in Costa Rica and Panama. That “deal” took two years to complete and forever altered Scott’s life. In course of its completion Scott began to look for other business opportunities and came up with the idea for Package Costa Rica. The rest, as they say, is history. Scott resides full-time in San Jose, Costa Rica.
Before Costa Rica, Scott was a practicing attorney and also founded Live Oak Capital Advisors, a boutique transactional advisory firm in the United States. As a transactional advisor, Scott was responsible for brokering the deal in which Universidad Interamericana, one of the top private for-profit universities in Costa Rica and Panama, was sold to Sylvan International Universities (now Laureate Education, Inc.) in 2003.
Scott earned his Juris Doctorate, cum laude, from Campbell University. His education includes a Master of Laws in Taxation, with distinction, from Georgetown University Law Center, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of South Carolina. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of South Carolina. Scott has earned the certifications of Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and Certified Business Appraiser (CBA). Scott has also been admitted to the bars of North and South Carolina, and was formerly a licensed real estate broker in North and South Carolina, and NASD registered representative.
